雅思试写作卷一 ( IELTS Writing Task 1 ) Line Graph 

上一篇教大家如何描述线图内走线上升和下跌的形态和趋势。今次我继续介绍如何使用英文表达线图会经常出现的另一种状态。

首先，我们再使用在上一篇文章中的图来解释如何走线的另一特别形态。

图一  Annual Exports of Bottled Wine of Country A 

图一显示 Country A 由 2000 年至 2024 年的瓶装餐酒的出口情况。大家会留意到 Country A 瓶装餐酒出口由 2019 年至 2024 年这六年期间没出现任何变化，如一条平坦的横线。如果要用英文来形容这个状态，考生有以下的选择：

例句一：

There was no change in the exports between 2019 and 2024.

例句二：

Country A's table wine exports did not change from 2019 to 2024.

例句三：

Looking at  the chart, it can be seen that bottled wine exports of Country A stayed unchanged for six consecutive years from 2019 to 2024.

事实上，上面句子中的划了底线的词汇还有有许多替代选择，例如：remained unchanged，remained constant，remained stable，remained static 和 remained at the same level at 4 million bottles each year from 2019 to 2024。

例句四：

Over the 6-year period from 2019 to 2024, exports remained unchanged. 

我也想特别介绍两个用词表表达走线没有变化的状况，它们是：plateau 和 level off。

例句五：

Country A's exports of bottled wines reached a plateau (名词) in a 6-year period between 2019 and 2024. 

Plateau 这个字也可以当作动词用。见下句：

例句六：

Country A's exports of bottled wines plateaued (动词) at a level of 4 million in a 6-year period between 2019 and 2024. 

但如果考生欲进一步描绘经过六年出口无任何变动后急剧下滑的特别情况，可以先用 level off 这 phrasal verb (短语动词) 和形容急速下降的英文字眼来这样写：

例句七：

As can be seen, after levelling off for six years, Country A's exports of bottled wines started plunging dramatically in 2024.

大家还记得我之前介绍了不同形容词来来描述不同的下落状态。我们现在就尝试利用所学的一些字应用这个状态，除了上面的 plunging dramatically 之外，还可以用falling sharply，declining suddenly 和 plummeting。

下一篇我会教大家如何重点比较线图内由三至四条走线所显示的的资讯，毕竟雅思学术写作一（IELTS Academic Writing Task One）的线图问题不会只展出一条线，而且 IELTS 也指明要求考生为图表内相关的资讯进行比较（make comparison where relevant）。
