( IELTS Writing Task 1 ) Line Graph

上一篇我继续教大家如何描述线图内走线上升和下跌的形态和趋势，就这篇而言，我们会尝试如何比较在同一幅线图内多条线的资讯，并使用大家较早前曾学过的字眼和句式来造出比较句式。现在请大家先看看图一。此图显示 2000 年至 2015 年抵达A、B、C和D四个城市的游客人数。

The graph below gives information about tourist arrivals in five different cities. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

首先，考生应考 IELTS 卷一时，应尽快挑选出图表显示的主要数字和趋势，并就这些主要数据和趋势，尝试进行相互比较和分析。大家应该注意到这幅线图的四个主要特点可以描写和作比较。

第一，这四个城市的旅游访客数字由 2000 年至 2015 年都持续上升，但只有城市A在 2010 年后开始下跌。

第二，2000 年，A城市录得的旅客数量是其他三个城市总和的两倍有多，数字都一直上升，但正如上述，在 2010 年后开始下跌。

第三，在 2000 年和 2005 年之间，城市B的访客数目升幅较其他三个城市快，但 2005 年之后步伐上升开始放缓。虽然如此，到了 2015 年，这个城市接待超过七百万名游客，与A城市相近。第四，在15年间，前往 D城市度假的旅客人数一直远低于其他三个城市。

我们现在试把以上四点用英文写下来。

句一：

The number of tourist arrivals in these four cities had been on the rise from 2000 to 2015, except for City A which saw the number starting to fall in 2010.

除了用 on the rise，我们也可以这样写来形容持续上升：

The number of tourist arrivals in these four cities rose steadily from 2000 to 2015.

The number of tourists visiting these four cities continued to grow between 2000 and 2015.

请大家留意句一是用了的past perfect tense (过去完成式)。大家知否为何要用 past perfect tense？

句二：

In 2000, City A recorded more than twice as many travelers as the other three cities combined.

大家能否记得之前我曾介绍「as （形容词/副词）… as」的这类比较句型 ( comparative ) ？但今次，在「as ….as」结构的前面，我加入了 twice 这个定词，因为当「as ….as」涉及到「……倍」的时候，我们可以加上twice或three times或thrice 等这两个倍数定词。

句三：

Between 2000 and 2005, the number of visitors to City B rose faster than the other three cities, but the pace of increase began to slow down after 2005。

大家应该留意到句三也是用来英语的「比较」句式结构（… than …）。
