We sometimes make or order more food than we can eat. Wasting good is unacceptable because food is a valuable resource and some people around the world are starving

There was an interesting story on the internet some time ago about a group of tourists and an old German(德國的)lady. Have you heard of it? The story goes that some tourists visited a German town and went to a local restaurant. They ordered lots of food.

An old German lady saw that they had let a lot of food go to waste. She was very upset. She told the restaurant manager, and the tourists became concerned. "We paid for our food, so it is none of your business," they told the old lady.

The old lady took out her mobile phone. Soon an official from the town hall arrived to see what the problem was. After seeing all the food that had gone to waste, the official fined the tourists as punishment.

The official told them, "Order only what you can eat. Your money is yours, but resources like this belong to our society. There are many other people in the world who are facing shortages, so you have no reason to be so wasteful."

Gplus

  • Do you feel sorry for these tourists? Why or why not?

  • The old German lady called the official to teach these tourists a lesson. Do you agree with her? Why or why not?

  • Do you agree with the statement 'Your money is yours, but resources like this belong to our society'?

Gtips

  • Appreciate food. Learn about how the food you are eating was grown or bred.

  • Eat everything on your plate.

  • Ask your parents not to prepare too much food for each meal. When you eat out, order only what you can finish.
